Ideas, Concerns, Questions, Reflections on the "Free: Places in the Cloud, T,W,R

For this prompt...again keep those EQ's front and center as we examine a few sites (in the right hand column of the blog). I would like each of you to post at minimum 2 comments that communicate an idea, concern, question, about any of the links. For example, what did you find interesting about the creative commons site? Did it mean anything to model to students what can be harvested in this site?

  2. I thought Emily's presentation was great! She came into this class not feeling very comfortable with using technology in the classroom. By the end of the week, she went above and beyond the call of duty. She had a great powerpoint, moodle page, and a blog. Kudos to you. I learned alot about perseverence and striving for the best!

  3. I was very impressed with all of the presentations. I am amazed by all of the things that are available. Emily, you did an amazing job even though you felt totally overwhelmed yesterday. You know more than me...I wouldn't know how to use moodle or create a blog. So props to you! I am interested in using Bryant's presentation idea, word champ. I think it would be a great tool to use so I can see what concepts, vocabulary, etc. my class is learning. It's something I can have my kids work on during the day and I can check the results after school. I'm excited about using something new this year with my class. I have a whole list of websites I want to use this year just by hearing personal accounts of how the sites are used.

  4. I think that everyone did a fantastic job presenting today! Emily thank you for sharing your emotion and opening up to all of us about how you are feeling. So many times when we are given new technology to use it can be overwhelming. If you had not broken down I would of had NO idea that you were feeling upset or overwhelmed by any means. Like I shared in class I too get overwhelmed and I am one who considers myself semi-in tune or on top of current trends? So, know that you are not alone. Also know that you did a great job.

  5. The idea that I would like to try is the website that Bryant used. I would like to try wordchamp.com to try to create test/quizzes with the flachcards. I also am still curious about moodle and how to use it in my classroom. Also, I would like to use the the web tools. I was impressed with all the presentations. I would like to use wordle and animoto.com in my classroom with the animal habitat unit. The students could create a project and have to present it. Overall, my heads is swimming with new ideas and I hope that I am able to incorporate even a few of them in the coming year.

  6. Bryn - I liked how you took your vocabulary cards from flashcard machine and placed that content into a PowerPoint game. I think that's a wonderful idea. Not only do students get practice with vocabulary on the website, but they can also use what they know to succeed in the PowerPoint game. I hope to someday finish some of the games I've created and I'll definitely use the templates found on the elementary game websites. Flashcard machine seems like a very useful tool for teachers and students. I especially like how we can print out the cards for those students who may not have access to the Internet. Great presentation.

  7. On Tiffany's presentation--This was a very interesting powerpoint that could be very effective even in a high school setting. I was impressed with how she used the color coding of the vocabulary and how she included time for interaction with the different pictures included. Using the paintings in a powerpoint that showed them in larger size that was easier to see also helped for students to compare or find the items that she was asking for.
    Very good presentation.

  8. In regards to Jason's presentation.

The overall web page was wonder. I especially like that students and parent’s survey that would dump into a spread sheet. It is a quick and easy way to find out information about student’s computer access and knowledge before creating projects.

  9. I really enjoyed listening to all of the ideas for the computer presentations. I think it is important that we not only think of computer presentations as something that we present to the students infront of the classroom, but also the way we offer information to students through the use of technology in the 21st Century.

After seeing the blogspot that Emily created, it makes me want to create something along those lines for a unit in my course. I would also like to go back to revist my webpage to better incorporate it with my moodle page after seeing what Jason is doing with his page. I found this course to be very eye opening to what is out there.

  10. One of the things from today that was most striking for me was the use of animoto.com as a collage for visual images. This seems like a fantastic tool for students as well as for teachers. I loved the variety of things that Jason used in his website for student use.

Emily's presentation was impressive -- the combination of PPT with moodle and blogging is amazing. What she has is simple and will be easy for her students to work with, even while having a lot of complexity to the various tools used for the students. Awesome, awesome!

  11. Vickie - A few comments on your presentation. I loved the visuals you had to go along with the powerpoint presentation. The ideas that you include with history really bring it to life. I love the organization and the way everything gets tied together. Way to go.

  12. I gained some bit of information from every presentation. I guess that's because I have such a limited experience base coming in.

I am nowhere near using it, but I did like the Animoto effects in Jason's presentation. I made sure I that I wrote that site down, and the site for Pecha-Kucha.

I think some of the sites several people created were to "busy" for me. I'm sure my perspective may change as I learn more. Seeing Moodle reminded me that I do have to tackle that, since my school seems to push it. I find it's layout completely uninviting. Jason did give me hope that some modifications can be made.

Thanks, Mark, for a great class. Your style made this one of the most pleasant workshops I've had, inspite of the topic!

  13. I learned something from every presentation, maybe because I came in with a limited experience base.

Although I'm nowhere near using it, I did like the Animoto effects in Jason's presentation. I did find some of the presentations too "busy" for me, but my perspective may change on that, too, after I learn more.

Thanks for a great class, Mark. Your style made it very pleasant, even with an uncomfortable topic!

  14. The presentations today were great! As an educator who is highly passionate about this topic, and one who is an advocate for incorporating 21st Century skills into the classroom, this was very eye opening for me as well. I am very comfortable with computers and my stress meter doesn’t move a bit when dealing with or figuring out new technology. I also realized a few years ago that the best way to increase our technological resources in the district was to increase the need for them. Of course this is accomplished by aiding more and more teachers in becoming comfortable with incorporating new technology in the classroom. This has been a goal of mine and working with other educators to do this is something I find that I really enjoy. Today’s presentations where enlightening to me, more in a sense of content than technology. I would love the opportunity to spend some time in the role of a technology coach working K-12, but after today definitely feel the stress meter moving when I think of all the content being delivered on a given day throughout a district. That said, I think today was a great example of the need to continuing to expose teachers to what is available. Only then can they come up with ideas about incorporating technology and then seek guidance or help. Everyone proved to me today why teachers are the most valuable tool in education. No matter how wonderful the latest technological gadget is, they will always be the true content masters. I know I would like to sit through many of the lessons outlined today. Also, I think everyone did a great job of letting their ideas and lessons chose the technology, and avoided letting the technology dictate the lesson…
